US Deports Iranians to Iran in Unusual Bilateral Agreement
(MENAFN) The Trump administration is sending approximately 100 Iranians back to Iran from the United States following an arrangement established between the two nations, a news agency reported on Tuesday.
According to senior Iranian and American officials cited in the article, a US-chartered aircraft carrying the deportees left Louisiana on Monday night and is anticipated to arrive in Iran through Qatar on Tuesday.
A US official confirmed that the preparations for this flight were nearly complete.
Two officials noted that the deportees consist of men, women, and some couples, with a portion volunteering after extended periods of detention, while the majority had either been refused asylum or had not yet appeared before a judge.
Iranian authorities characterized the deportation as an uncommon example of collaboration between the US and Iran following several months of negotiations.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry managed the repatriation process and assured the deportees of their well-being.
Historically, the US has faced challenges deporting migrants to countries such as Iran because of weak diplomatic relations and delays in securing travel documentation, often causing lengthy detention or release.
In 2024 alone, the US deported slightly more than twenty Iranians—the largest figure in recent years—via multiple commercial flights.
