Moroccan Government Urge Dialogue Amid Protests

(MENAFN) The Moroccan government has indicated its readiness to engage in dialogue and meaningful discussions in response to the growing wave of civil unrest that has engulfed several urban areas throughout the country.

During a routine cabinet session on Thursday, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch stated that authorities had “engaged with the demands expressed by the youth movements” and are open to “dialogue and discussion.”

His remarks reflect an official commitment to addressing grievances through communication rather than confrontation.

As reported by a news agency, Akhannouch emphasized, “Once again, we reiterate that a dialogue-based approach is the only path to addressing the various challenges facing our country.”

This underlines the government's intention to resolve tensions through cooperative means.

Citing information from a media outlet, the prime minister also noted that the administration is keeping a close eye on the events of recent days in several towns, where protests have intensified and transformed into violent episodes.

The unrest reached a tragic climax on Wednesday night in Leqliaa, a town located near Agadir. Local officials reported that security personnel discharged their weapons after a mob of demonstrators, wielding edged weapons and stones, attempted to overrun a Royal Gendarmerie station.

The attackers allegedly tried to gain access to firearms and ammunition, prompting a deadly response.
