Manchester City Defender to Undergo Surgery

(MENAFN) Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol is scheduled for surgical intervention later this week following a shinbone fracture sustained during Sunday's 1-1 stalemate against Chelsea in Premier League action.

The 23-year-old Croatia international exited the match at Stamford Bridge after just 51 minutes. Defensive partner Ruben Dias subsequently departed with his own injury concern approximately thirty minutes afterward.

Club officials confirmed they continue efforts to "ascertain the full extent" of Gvardiol's injury while determining a projected timeline for his return to action.

The injured defender addressed the setback through social media, posting on Instagram: "This is a hard moment, but it will never define me. I know who I am and where I come from."

He continued: "I'll fight every day to return stronger. I will rise again, better than ever."

Confronting an escalating injury crisis, City has pulled academy product Max Alleyne back from his loan arrangement with Championship club Watford. The 20-year-old defender may feature in the squad selection for Wednesday's league encounter against Brighton.

The defensive disruption compounds mounting fitness concerns for the club as they navigate a congested fixture schedule across multiple competitions.
