Report Showcases Severe Disparity in West Bank Building Permits
According to reports, between 2009 and 2020, Israeli authorities authorized only 66 building permits for Palestinians, while thousands of approvals were issued to settlers during the same timeframe.
“As most of the West Bank is off-limits to Palestinian development, residents are forced to build without permits,” the paper commented.
The report also pointed to intensified demolition activity carried out by Israeli authorities since January in the Taawun neighborhood, located south of Nablus in the northern part of the West Bank.
Situated in Area C, the neighborhood “did not receive building permits from the Israeli authorities, despite being far from any settlement or access road,” the daily noted.
Al-Taawun, it added, is “just one example of the accelerating pace of demolitions across the West Bank.”
Data cited in the report further showed that in January alone, Israeli forces demolished 24 Palestinian-owned structures in Area C on the grounds that they lacked official building permits.
