Australia Confirms Troops Safe After Iranian Drone Strike on UAE Base
The attack targeted Al Minhad Air Base during the first night of rising regional tensions. Marles emphasizes that no Australian personnel were injured in the strike.
Located roughly 40 kilometers outside Dubai, the base has served as a critical logistical and operational hub for the Australian Defense Force (ADF). Australian forces have operated from Al Minhad since 2003, though troop numbers were significantly reduced after the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Currently, around 100 ADF members are deployed across several Middle Eastern countries, with the majority stationed in the UAE, according to reports.
This incident follows a history of overseas facilities hosting Australian troops coming under attack. In 2019, a military base in Iraq housing more than 300 ADF personnel was struck by rockets while Australian and New Zealand forces conducted a joint mission to train Iraqi troops.
