Israel Begins Ground Operation in Lebanon

(MENAFN) The Israeli military announced Tuesday that it has launched a ground incursion into southern Lebanon aimed at establishing a “security zone,” with troops deployed at unspecified strategic locations.

In a statement, the army said the 91st Division is carrying out what it described as a “forward defense operation” to reinforce protection for northern Israeli towns. The operation is intended to strengthen the defensive system by conducting extensive strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure and preventing potential infiltration attempts into Israel.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it had targeted three Israeli military bases in northern Israel and the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights using rockets and drones.

The development comes as the United States and Israel continue a large-scale military campaign against Iran launched Saturday, which reportedly killed several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
