UK Plans Child Safety Measures to Block Nude Images on Devices
Speaking at London Tech Week on Monday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged technology firms to introduce safeguards that would stop minors from sending or receiving sexually explicit content.
In a statement, the Home Office said the measures would make the UK “the first country in the world where it is impossible for children to take, share or view naked pictures on their devices.”
Under the proposed rules, major technology companies such as Apple and Google would be expected to enable existing protective tools or create new systems capable of identifying and blocking nude images on devices used by children.
The Home Office said: “Under new plans, Big Tech companies like Apple and Google must activate built-in features or implement technical solutions on smartphones and tablets to detect and block nude images for children.”
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen online safety protections for young people and limit their exposure to harmful content.
